Both types present specific maintenance and repair requirements. Frame-supported canopies require regular attention to sealant joints, drainage channels, and capping system integrity. Patch-fixed canopies require inspection of fixings, glass edge conditions, and the structural silicone bond line.
Glazed canopies are exposed to weather on both faces and are subject to higher thermal movement than vertical glazing due to their overhead orientation and direct solar gain. Canopy drainage is a particularly frequent source of problems. The shallow falls typically present in canopy glazing systems mean that even partial blockage of outlet or gutter channels causes standing water to accumulate. This accelerates sealant breakdown at the glass-to-frame interface and, over time, creates hydrostatic pressure that forces water through what would otherwise be a sound seal.

Glass replacement on canopies requires additional handling care compared to vertical glazing. Overhead glass handling introduces different manual handling risks, and on larger panels vacuum lifting equipment is used to ensure controlled placement.
