GLRE specialises in secondary glazing, a solution that involves installing a fully independent window system inside existing windows or glazing without altering the original units.
GLRE specialises in delivering commercial secondary glazing projects. Secondary glazing is available as fully removeable opening sections if required, or in a fixed unit application. The opening units can incorporate horizontal or vertical sliding sashes or a side hung casement. These designed opening sections facilitate access to the external window for cleaning and allow the opening of both the secondary glazing and external windows. Fixed installations of secondary glazing sections are designed, manufactured and installed to allow the client to easily remove the secondary glazing sections in warmer months when the thermal benefits are not required.
Secondary glazing is suitable for a wide range of commercial projects and applications, including schools, universities and colleges, office blocks and any building located within an appointed conservation area.
Secondary glazing is chosen for various important reasons:
Enhanced Thermal Insulation: With ever-increasing energy costs and environmental impact, the continuous revisions to Building Regulations and the drive to create thermally efficient buildings, there has never been a better time to consider secondary glazing. Whilst double-glazing can assist in improving the thermal performance of your building, this alone simply cannot completely stop the loss of heat in your building. The procurement and installation of a secondary glazing system provides an additional thermal barrier and will have the added benefits of reducing both the energy loss and its associated costs.
Acoustic Insulation: Building regulations approved Document E becomes particularly relevant when we consider the need to control the noise in the spaces we create in which to live, work or study. The GLRE range of secondary glazing systems provides both a designed and effective solution for a variety of commercial, residential and public buildings.
Conservation and Listed Buildings: Listed building consent restrictions often apply to properties that retain original, period single-glazed windows. These windows, although beautifully crafted, typically have very poor heat and acoustic performance insulation. Removing and replacing these historical windows is not an option. Introducing a secondary glazing system is therefore typically the only way to provide a reversible alteration to the internal face of the windows, maintaining and conserving the exterior character and aesthetics of a period property whilst creating a very real and positive impact on the building’s thermal and acoustic performance.
Enhanced Building Security: This is particularly relevant and effective in the many listed and period properties that we work on: Very often the original window make-up, design and hardware will lack the robust efficacy of modern security components. A secondary glazing installation creates secure additional security, whilst introducing modern and purpose designed opening and locking systems.
Flexibility: Removable options allow for seasonal adjustments and easy access to the primary windows for cleaning.
The GLRE range of aluminium secondary windows is purpose-designed for both single and double-glazed primary windows. GLRE design, manufacture and install our secondary systems in-house. GLRE secondary glazing is professionally installed and operational and cleaning and maintenance manuals are provided for both the original, primary windows and the newly installed secondary glazing on project completion. When installed, the new secondary glazing system is supported by long term warranties and guaranties and will provide the equivalent thermal and acoustic performance of a comparable or similar double-glazed alternative.

Yes, it's an effective way to improve insulation and reduce noise without altering the appearance of existing windows.
While highly beneficial, secondary glazing can be less visually appealing from the interior and may require additional cleaning.
Secondary glazing can reduce condensation by creating a warmer interior glass surface, though adequate ventilation is still necessary.
Costs vary based on window size, type, and specific requirements. Contact GLRE for a detailed quote.
Pricing is bespoke to each project, depending on the complexity and specifications of the secondary glazing system.
Both have advantages; secondary glazing is ideal for improving existing windows without replacement, while double glazing offers a built-in solution for new installations.
