This case study outlines the delivery of a design and installation of new glass balustrading solutions for this midlands based school. Glazing Refurbishment is proud to play a part in improving the structures in schools across the UK.
Penn Fields is a school located in Wolverhampton, it educated 195 students from early years to post 16with a range of needs that are supported through the day to day school experience. The school caters for students who have moderate and complete learning difficulties.
As outlines below: The brief/scope of the scheme was to either alter the existing balustrade height which was a standard 1100mm high - 10mm toughened glass clamped system with handrails to achieve an enhanced safety specification for the students of the School of between 1800 -2000mm high, or to replace the balustrading throughout.
Alteration/modification was not an option ref the existing balustrade system, so theGR design team carried out the full design element – design drawings, calculations etc in order to meet the end Clients requirements and to ensure a fully compliant system in line with the original design brief. Upon completion GR handed over to the client a 25.5mm toughened laminated frameless glass balustrading system with enhanced sunken stainless steel bottom channels, with supporting mid/handrails to the associated staircases and an overall improved safety height of 2000mm.GR operated in the capacity of Main Contractor for the duration of the works and as such managed project delivery and all aspects of site safety/welfare.
